Falmouth Town Forum
Falmouth’s Town Centre Forum was created approximately 15 years ago with the express intention of securing the revitalisation and regeneration of Falmouth Town Centre. The Constitution also states that the Forum shall serve as a consultative committee of the Falmouth Town Council on matters relating to the revitalisation and regeneration of Falmouth Town Centre.
The Forum was directly instrumental in securing the appointment of a Town Centre Manager for Falmouth, and from the outset, this body has worked closely with the incumbent of that post.
Currently the Forum comprises of 20 representatives of various bodies and organisations within our town, along with a further 3 members drawn from the Town Council, District Council and County Councils.
The main body of the Forum meets bi-monthly with Sub Committees meeting monthly or more frequently, as circumstances require. At the time of writing the forum has 4 Sub Committees or Working Groups. These Groups, which are individually Chaired, at present cover the interest areas of Transport, Waterside Development, Tourism, Youth matters and local development plans.
The Forum is entirely self funding and self supporting, taking no expenses from the public purse for its operation. Particular successes for the Forum in the past include a strong enabling role with regard to the re-development of The Moor, a central role with regard to 4 past studies focussing on the future development of the Town, a strong role with regard to lobbying and securing additional traffic control measures for the town centre recently, a central role with the “Falmouth – A Common Voice” event in 2007 and, critically, operating as a unifying organisation for its constituent membership, disseminating information and enabling a large body of the town to speak with one voice.
The Forum welcomes Speakers to most meetings, including the Mayor last September, with others covering subjects such as the Unitary Authority, Sustainable development and the proposed developments at The Docks.
Over the past year the Forum has worked on the following issues: BIDS, the TCM role, Falmouth Week, the Tall Ships event, a suitable website for the Town, Falmouth Ambassadors, Take Pride and numerous other local matters. See also Working Group headings
Over the coming year the Forum looks forward to working with Falmouth Town Council on the Town Community Plan and also with regard to making best use of Convergence Funding
