The Park & Float/Ride scheme was started by Cornwall Ferries Ltd in 2003 to support the opening of the National Maritime Museum. The ferries purchased from the Isles of Scilly have been refitted by Cockwells Classic and Modern Boat Builders situated just next to the car park.
In the winter months the car park becomes a boat park and this helps support the summer park and ride operation. Since opening 300,000 passengers have utilised the service and seen Falmouth from the river whilst enjoying a trip on a classic ferry. The service is supported by Cornwall Council.
