Walking the Roseland Peninsula
Taking the great little Place Ferry from St Mawes will reward you with some great walking options that will give a real sense of the beauty, tranquility and magic that is the Roseland Peninsula. Here are some suggestions:
Place to Molunan Beach
Distance: 2 Miles
Time: allow 1.5 hrs
If you want to get away from it all then this stroll to Molunan beach is the one for you. From Place follow the South West Coast Path towards St Anthony Head. Before the headland you’ll see the white sands of Molunan Beach below you. Go on, take a swim in its crystal clear waters!. Although this isolated little beach is only a 45 minute walk from Place, its tranquil isolation and captivating seclusion make it a real treat.
Place to Porthbeor
Distance: 2 Miles
Time: allow 1 hr
Lovely walk to a dramatic beach. From Place follow the road up the hill towards Bohortha. Before the turning to Bohortha and as you get to the brow of the hill, cross over the field to Porthbeor beach. A long climb down will reward you with a walk along the shores of one of Cornwall’s loveliest coves. Chill out, do some rockpooling, enjoy a picnic before the walk home.
A ramble around
Distance: 6 Miles
Time: allow 3 hrs
A lovely walk that takes you across the Roseland Peninsula. Follow the coast path from Place to Porthbeor beach as above but this time continue along the coast path towards Portscatho, turning inland at Towan Beach towards Porth. Crossing the road follow the signs that will take you along the shores of Porth Creek to North Hill Point. From here you turn and follow the path which runs alongside the Percuil River back to Place creek.
Portscatho walk
Distance: 8 Miles
Time: allow 4 hrs
A great walk that will fill a good part of the day. Again as with other walks described follow the coastal path to Porthbeor Beach. Keep going until you arrive at Towan Beach and then a little further on, the village of Portscatho. After you had a rest, picnic or browse around the village, head up to Gerrans Church. Passing the church turn left and follow the signs to the car park, carry on along the lane passing Treloan Farm towards Porth. From Porth follow the signs that will take you along the shores of Porth Creek to North Hill Point. From here you turn and take the path which runs alongside the Percuil River back to Place Creek.
