About
Falmouth Art Gallery is one of the leading art galleries in the South West and is family friendly with free admission. It has changing displays of some of the best of British art and a shop with affordable gifts from many of the county’s leading ceramicists, printmakers, jewellers and automata makers.
The Art Gallery runs a lively temporary exhibitions programme featuring a wide range of work from hands-on automata to Matisse, as well as changing displays of paintings from its nationally important art collection. Discover masterpieces by Thomas Gainsborough, Laura Knight, Alfred Munnings, John Singer Sargent, Henry Scott Tuke, Charles Napier Hemy and George Frederick Watts alongside pictures by contemporary artists such as Naomi Frears and Trevor Bell.
The Art Gallery’s most famous painting is The Lady of Shalott by John William Waterhouse, which is known throughout the world.
It also has an impressive photography collection including work by Lee Miller, Ian Stern and Eve Arnold. It also houses The Surrealists in Cornwall Collection, the Automata Collection, The Children’s Illustration Archive and one of the most important print collections outside of London which includes ‘The Art Fund Hugh Stoneman Archive’ and ‘The Art Fund’s Naomi G. Weaver Gift’.
Falmouth Art Gallery has gained nationwide recognition for its innovative family and community workshops. We particularly welcome visits from special needs groups. Wheelchair/pushchair access via Webber Street entrance.
