Pendennis Castle Activities
Expect a wide range of family-friendly activities, educational workshops, live music, a WWII themed menu, and free entry to Pendennis Castle for the whole day! The Castle will be open to the public from 10am to 10pm, with stalls and workshops running from 11am to 4.30pm.
Educational stalls:
Dig for Victory – Find out how vital this campaign was to the war effort. The ‘Dig for Victory‘ campaign launched at the outbreak of the war encouraged the cultivation of gardens and allotments. Millions of instructional leaflets were issued and by 1943 over 1.4 million people had allotments and were producing over a million tons of vegetables a year.
Rationing – In January 1940, the British government introduced food rationing. The scheme was designed to ensure fair shares for all at a time of national shortage. Find out what life with a ration card was like during WWII.
Beauty is your duty – Through government messages and advertising, women in Britain were bombarded with the message that their beauty was their duty, and they should strive to look beautiful and keep morale high across the country and on the front lines.
