Freshers Guide to Falmouth After 5

Welcome back to Falmouth! Whether you’re arriving for your very first term or returning for another year, there’s no better time to dive into everything our town has to offer after dark. From chilled pints with friends to late-night dancing, live music, cinema trips, and creative hangouts, there’s something for every mood and every budget.

Freshers Week is packed with student offers from local venues, so keep an eye on @lovefalmouth for all the latest deals, events, and info.

Nightclubs & Dance Venues

Start with Mangos on Church Street – by day it’s a laid-back café, but by night it becomes one of the town’s liveliest dance spots with karaoke, fancy dress, and themed nights made for students.

Falmouth’s best-known club, Club International (Club I), is a rite of passage. With themed nights, plenty of atmosphere, and a dance floor that stays busy until late, it’s long been part of the town’s student story.

A late-night favourite, Toast is known for its laid-back atmosphere, regular live music, and great drinks deals, making it a popular spot with students throughout the week.

Live Music & Late Nights

If you’re looking for something a little different, The Cornish Bank is a creative hub with gigs, comedy, open mics, and film nights – all at student-friendly prices.

Nestled just below, The Touc Inn is a characterful pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to relax with a drink or light snack before heading upstairs for an evening of entertainment.

Hidden in the historic Old Brewery Yard, The Chintz Symposium is one of Falmouth’s most distinctive venues – a colourful, quirky favourite with cocktails, craft beers, and cheese boards.

Head downstairs to the late-night cellar bar, Underland, for live gigs, with the much-loved Monday jazz sessions a particular highlight.

Social Spaces & Creative Hubs

When you want to mix things up, The Games Room is perfect for pool, darts, and board games with friends.

The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society (The Poly) offers a rich programme throughout the year, including workshops, independent film screenings, live comedy, and thought-provoking exhibitions. Or settle into Phoenix Cinema for the latest blockbusters and special screenings.

For a more hands-on evening, Star Glazers Pottery Café lets you create your own pottery piece – ideal for a chilled night out with friends.

Pubs & Cocktails

Falmouth’s pubs are the heart of its social scene, and we’re sure you’ll soon find your go-to spot. The Chain Locker and Pennycomequick are favourites for quiz enthusiasts and music lovers, while The Seven Stars offers a buzzing, social atmosphere. Expect regular live entertainment at The Grapes Inn and head to Palacio for a carefully curated events calendar. If you’re a book lover, don’t miss Beerwolf Books and check out The Shed for amazing deals everyday!

Scattered across town, you’ll also discover an enticing selection of cocktail and mocktail bars. Head below deck to The Brig for a wide selection of cocktails and rums. Discover Latin flavours at Cha Cha Cha, tropical vibes at Kona, and right in the centre of town, The Black Cat, with its impressive cocktail menu and range of local craft beers and spirits.

For a sophisticated night out, visit Kernowine, where you’ll find delicious wines to suit all budgets. Not a wine lover? Pocketful of Stones offers bespoke gin tasting sessions from this local distillery, featuring everything from classic dry gins to bold, contemporary flavours.
