Cockwells

Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding creates beautiful bespoke boats for a discerning local, national and international clientele.

With a global reputation for building head-turning superyacht tenders for multi-million-pound motherships, the Company is also the proud creator of the award-winning Duchy Motor Launches brand. Ranging from 21ft to 60ft, the Duchy fleet can be customised with a seemingly limitless number of optional extras that define luxury and deliver outstanding performance whether sailing on lakes, canals, fjords or open water. Duchy Motor Launches can also be customised for different countries. A white-hulled version for Mediterranean climes offers two sunbeds, an air-conditioned saloon, electric Bimini, easy-access bathing platform and swimming ladder whilst for rockier Scandinavian shores, an aft windlass for bow-to mooring, a pulpit with a gate and bow passarelle or ladder enhances already excellent manoeuvrability.

Following an ambitious period of expansion and investment in a low-environmental impact HQ at Mylor Creek, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Cockwells recently acquired the assets of Hardy Marine whose world-class, seafaring motor yachts range up to 65ft. This well-respected brand of all-weather, all-location motor yachts is now being reimagined to include hybrid propulsion and digital switching for full remote control, to provide a modern cruising experience for multi-generational maritime adventures.

The Company’s Mylor Creek Boatyard is fully equipped to offer refits, restorations and engineering services for local yachts and superyacht tenders from all over the world. Cockwells’ recent purchase of The South West Shipyard at a prime waterside location between Falmouth and Penryn enables the Company to build more of its larger vessels in response to unprecedented demand.

CEO and Founder of Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding Ltd – Dave Cockwell – says, “Falmouth has one of the most beautiful stretches of water in the UK, which attracts people who are looking to buy boats. It is therefore very easy for us to showcase our vessels to their best advantage here. We also benefit from having fantastic craftsmen and tradespeople here. We want to employ people who have a real affinity with boats and boating, and they are the very kind of people who tend to gravitate to the Falmouth area.”

Dave Cockwell is a boat builder through and through. He began as ‘the kid who could fix boats’ at Bristol Docks and whenever he earned money repairing boats, he would spend half of it on tools.

Today, he is the Founder and Managing Director of Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding in Cornwall and he is still doing the same – investing in tools and facilities.

Having dedicated his entire working life to the building and restoring of wooden boats, Dave is a skilled shipwright. With extensive experience of every type of hull construction and joinery, he is driven by the search for the ultimate challenge.
