Olde Rope is an amalgamation of skills and passions developed over the last 15 years by the owner. In its simplest form we are 'Purveyors of Remade'. All of the products we sell are made from waste and recycled materials. Our aim is to make the most of resources already in circulation, by remaking and reworking. Our products include - vintage and reworked clothing, unique eco-silver jewellery, recycled glassware, coffee cups and water bottles, socks made from offcuts and plant pots made from waste resin.
About
Ole Rope are trying to change people’s mindsets on recycled and remade products by showcasing high quality items from local makers alongside other sustainable brands from further afield, offering a diversity of stock. Products don’t have to be of a lesser quality just because they are recycled, and this is what we are trying to put across to customers.
As well as our Eco-Boutique, we provide a clothing alteration and repair service. We also provide sewing machines for communal use, reducing the need for every person to own a machine, thus joining the growing community of tool sharers.
And it doesn’t end there, within the store there is a designated space for Eco-Workshops. Here we run courses on sewing and creating with recycled materials. We teach you how to rework, fix and create clothing alongside Kelmi-Craft who run Macrame workshops using our recycled cotton yarn. We are adding one of our jewellers to our list of tutors this autumn, creating jewellery from recycled silver. We are continually growing our offering and there are always more specialist classes to come, taught by tutors from different fields of recycling and reworking. We want the shop to be a hub of creativity for the local community and a learning ground for educating people in the ease and beauty of reusing what we have.
The authenticity of the shop is very important so we have tried to make the physical shop as eco as possible. We have used reconstituted plastics, waste materials and wood to create a low impact shop fit. We reused parts of the previous shop, within the new design and gave away everything we didn’t need. All of the packaging we use is recycled and recyclable, and our electricity all comes from renewable energy.
Ultimately, we just want to make a positive difference and inspire progress.
