Falmouth Town Team
Falmouth is the only town in Cornwall and one of only a handful of comparable sized towns in the UK that has the joint management resource of a Town Manager and Business Improvement District (BID) Manager. The Town Management function is funded through Falmouth Town Council while the BID is financed by 450 businesses, a national scheme now in over 250 towns in the UK. A strong public/private partnership has been developed that provides innovative business development, destination marketing and operational management for Falmouth.
So how has this helped Falmouth?

* A resource that can take advantage of opportunities such as Olympic Torch Relay, large scale filming, event ideas, liaise with commercial agents and landlords and much more
* BID Budget has enabled new ideas such as new events, destination marketing for Falmouth, public realm improvements and business upskilling programmes to take place
* Public/private partnership has enabled match funding opportunities to be fully explored, further benefitting Falmouth and its businesses eg in enabling vacant unit revamps to take place, Christmas lighting and joint regional marketing campaigns
The partnership has been highlighted as example of best practice, been invited to Parliament to present on town management partnership ideas and has consulted with over a dozen other areas in the UK looking to establish town management functions
